The male g-spot is actually called the prostate. You’ve probably heard a lot about the importance of prostate health, but even though people like to talk about it, few men actually understand it. Women don’t have prostates, so sometimes these are called the “male gland.” A prostate is actually half glad, half muscle.

Prostates are walnut-sized and have three lobes. They surround the urethra, which is why men with prostate problems sometimes have a hard time urinating. The urethra trails from the bladder to the penis, and the prostate is found near the bladder end of this tube, right in front of the rectum. More in prostate massage.

An enlarged prostate doesn’t always, however, mean BHP. That’s the best-case scenario. Sometimes, an enlarged prostate means something much, much worse. In some cases, an enlarged prostate can indicate a prostate infection, but sadly, many times it indicates prostate cancer.

Prostate massage is all about help you and your partner enjoy sex. It doesn’t matter who you are or what you enjoy most in bed; when you both have amazing orgasms, that’s when you both build upon your foundation and really start to expand you sex life. Prostate massage is just the start of that.

The first step to amazing orgasms is finding your prostate in the first place. You can do this with your partner if you want, but for the first time, many men feel most comfortable exploring solo. Either way, finding your prostate takes a bit of patience and a lot of relaxation.

Radiation therapy for prostate cancer is one of the more common alternatives to a radical prostate removal. It involves sending a beam of radiation directly into the prostate gland to kill cancerous cells and hopefully not affect the surrounding normal tissue. However there is a less drastic alternative for localized cancer confined only to the prostate gland. Known as brachytherapy, this treatment consists of injecting small, rice-sized grains of radioactive material, usually iodine or palladium, directly into the prostate gland. This article will examine the brachytherapy procedure, its details, and possible side effects.

The seeds that are used in brachytherapy are about the size of a grain of rice and consist of either iodine or palladium. Both of these are radioactive materials which slowly decrease in radioactivity over 3 to 6 months. These are positioned inside the prostate gland to irradiate the cancerous cells. However, to know exactly where to place them, some preparation work must be done first.

The patient will first be given an enema, and then under general anesthetic be given an ultrasound. The ultrasound is used to take a “snapshot” of the prostate gland so positioning can be planned before the treatment is actually performed. Once the planning is completed, the injection can be done safely.

Injection is via a long, fine needle. The seeds are inserted through the piece of skin between the testicles and the anus, known as the perineum. Once placed inside the prostate gland, the radioactivity goes to work. It will remain active for several weeks, then slowly die down.

After the treatment, there are a few side effects that may develop. The most common is pain the perineum directly attributable to the needle insertion. Some men feel a dull ache in this area for several days. This can be easily managed through simply non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, and the knowledge that it will heal quickly. After a few weeks, side effects from the radiation itself may present themselves. These are usually urinary problems, such as a weak stream and a burning sensation upon urination. These will generally subside over time. There can also be as much as a 50% chance of impotence, which is high, but not as high as with radical prostate removal surgery.

Prostate brachytherapy can be seen as a very viable alternative to the more drastic prostate cancer treatments that can take a long time to heal from. Surgery can mean weeks of recuperation, and traditional beam radiation therapy can mean severe side effects and possible damage to surrounding tissues. Cancer that is contained within the prostate gland does not always need to be treated with such life-altering consequences, and brachytherapy is a possible answer to that need.

Flomax is a prescription medicine that has been approved and licensed by the FDA for the treatment of enlarged prostates. The medical terms for an enlarged prostate include benign prostatic hyperplasia, benign prostatic hypertrophy or BPH. Flomax is manufactured by Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

How It Works

This medication works like the common alpha blockers, it blocks the alpha-1 receptors. These receptors can be found throughout the body including the prostate. When alpha-1 receptors are blocked it allows the muscles to relax in the prostate and the bladder neck. Flomax is different from other prostate medications since it doesn’t actively shrink the prostate as some other drugs do. However, the symptoms are quickly relieved with it when the muscles relax. This means that Flomax provides relief for the symptoms, but it isn’t a cure for the condition.

Taking Flomax

This drug is taken by mouth as a capsule every day at least thirty minutes after a meal. You should take the whole capsule and never open, chew or crush the capsules. You should take the capsules at the same time each day so that you have an even level of the drug in your blood. You should always take Flomax, as prescribed since this helps it to work properly. If you stop taking it, prostate enlargement will return and you will not longer receive the benefits.

Side Effects

There are possible side effects with this drug as there is with all prescription medications. Although side effects won’t be experienced by every individual taking. Rather the opposite is true, many people tolerate this drug very well. Most side effects that occur are minor and either have no necessary treatment or can easily be treated by your healthcare provider. The most common side effects of this drug include abnormal ejaculation, runny or stuffy nose, dizziness and infections including the cold or flu. There are a number of drugs that can interact with Flomax so you should tell your doctor of any medicines you are taking and they will make sure no interaction will occur.

Before you start taking Flomax there are several things you should tell your health care provider. If you have any allergies including foods, dyes, preservatives or sulfa then you should tell your doctor. If you are pregnant or thinking of becoming pregnant or breastfeeding then you should also talk with your doctor before taking this drug. When telling your doctor about any medicines you are taking you should be sure to include both prescription and non-prescription medicines as well as vitamins and herbal supplements.

Zinc has been closely associated with prostate health. This gland contains more zinc than any other organ in your body. It’s a major ingredient of seminal fluid and a deficiency can lead to major problems. Zinc deficiency has also been linked to prostate inflammation and enlargement, therefore a zinc supplement may be advocated both to prevent and alleviate an enlarged prostate.

It’s somewhat unusual to have a deficiency in zinc, it really depends on your diet. Unfortunately, a lack of zinc in your daily diet can lead to prostate problems not the least of which is impotence. Zinc absorption may be decreased in men with prostate enlargement (prostatitis) because estrogen levels are higher and estrogen impairs intestinal zinc uptake. In prostatitis, zinc levels are only ONE-TENTH of those in a normal prostate.

If you choose to use a supplement, keep in mind that zinc is best absorbed as a chelated complex. Another way to get zinc is to eat foods that naturally contain it. Zinc-rich foods include red meat, shellfish, oysters, shrimp, fish, whole grains, nuts -especially walnuts, hazelnuts and almonds, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, and legumes like peas, beans, and soy beans.

Because zinc inhibits copper absorption, you’ll need to supplement with it as well. While you’re at it add in other antioxidants such as vitamins C and E, and selenium.

It’s really easy to include extra zinc into your daily routine either by a supplement or including rich sources of food into your daily menu. You’ll be rewarded with a healthy prostate and not suffer the effects of prostatitis.
